Say what?

God has a flair for doing the unusual. He often does things outside the bolded lines of reasoning; things that reposition the lines and features of our faces to form awed expressions. In amazement our mouths open, belting out inaudible sounds in head-scratching, heart-pounding, eye-popping wonder. Then the dam opens and gives way to the unrestricted flow of tears…a sweet release. Sometimes we are loud with it, singing shouts of praise, jumping up and down, swaying left to right, and rolling on the ground. I suppose whatever best expresses our shock at God’s audacious ways.

My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.|Isaiah 55:8-9, NLT|His ways are not bounded by human rules, laws or expectations and go figure, He is after-all the master creator of all that is seen and unseen. His ways are not logical to the human mind. He brings light out of darkness, speaks life to dead bones (situations) and calms raging storms. But wait, there is more good news. He is in the business of love and life…unconditional love, abundant life.

Everything about the birth of Jesus was unusual. It is safe to say that the circumstances were neither typical nor ideal, and even more confusing is the fact that the chosen woman was far from being royal. In fact, if royalty could be measured on a scale of 0 to 10, Mary was on the other side of zero; the left side, where the negative sign comes out to play. So how can an unknown, irrelevant and some would say, less than woman birth the King of kings? God literally found this chic in the village, and this village was one no one seemed particularly fond of! Even Nathanael in John 1:46 was like, huh! Nazareth! Can anything good come from Nazareth? The Bible actually states he exclaimed, so this dude was definitely in 21st century colloquial ‘in with the cool crowd’ language, shook.

But yea…

If many years later, I read Luke 1:26, and think, Mary though? Chances are she probably thought the same thing, Er me? And God says, yea you! And she simply obeys. It’s like she’s saying I don’t exactly see it, but if you say so Lord here I am. I do not understand it, but at your word I will. I do not see the full picture, but I am willing to be used of the Lord. |Luke 1:38, NLV|

The minute she saw past her limitations and focused on her unlimited God, she released a kill shot stone from her sling of obedience, and it was lights out for doubt/fear. In that moment, she mirrored the boldness and strength shown by David when he faced Goliath.

Today, God is saying (to you), yea you. It doesn’t matter what ‘village’ you come from or your current circumstances. It doesn’t matter your past. It doesn’t matter how much you have in your bank account or if you are a nobody with a nobody last name with no connections. It doesn’t matter if people are hollering (laughing at you) saying ‘can anything good come from…’ the same God that saw the potential in Mary’s womb and saw her as worthy sees you.

Respond to His call and let Him do the unusual (miraculous) in, through and with you.
